There are two international events requiring team selection in SUP surf, race and prone paddle board disciplines. Ideally, it would be preferable for all race disciplines to follow a comparable process however, there are a number of factors which impinge upon doing so; particularly that at the time of going to press an official date or location is still to be released by the International Surfing Association (ISA) for this year’s world championships or the European Surfing Federation (ESF) for the European championships.Read More

In light of the time it is taking to finalise the Team England and Team GB selection process we have provided an update for clarity during this frustrating time.
BSUPA have been chasing an answer from Surf England /BSURF – on what is happening to the TEAM ENGLAND and now TEAM GB selection process, here’s an update on 7th June 2018.
We appreciate the MASSIVE frustration this is causing to riders and Event Organisers.
This is due to a decision that the ISA made and sent to Surf England (ISA partners) in April 2018. Which in turn Surf England was unhappy about the decision and have protested to the ISA.
Currently BSURF who represent the UK Surf Federations (ISA) and SURF Olympic TEAM selection process – have still not decided on a plan! But they are having meetings about this.
We have been pressing them very hard for a decision so we can let you know.
Mark Price, Glenn Eldridge have been fully informed of all the dialogue and have come up with a solution, which we have put forward to BSURF.
Our solution for consideration by the Federations is as follows:
Create two new selection events for TEAM GB SUP for 2018
- GBSUP BAY SUP Bournemouth 21 JULY 2018 Race and Tech
- BSUPA Watergate 13/14th October 2018 – SUP Surf
This option will discard current event results for winners of BSUPA SUP series in 2017 and current selection series results from 2018 GBSUP race series (This will be gutting for the Riders who put so much into their events results).
This would allow all Nations time to take part in selection process; but, will put pressure on SUP Surf selected team to get flights, time off work last minute, raise sponsorship for Brazil ISA World Championships in November. Selection based on first over the line, man and woman to ISA team selection rules and then offer to those who can pay to travel and enter the event.
The 2018 team will be selected from the winners of each competition rather than from selected nations. This will mean the top athletes will represent Team GB for the year 2018.
EUROS 2018 / TEAM ENGLAND SUP
This selection process can still serve as a selection for the EUROS in Sardinia in Sept 2018 for Team England.
However we will need to change – selection intention document -as this has only been taken up by – 1 man and 4 women.
Prone selection will need further attention as this is not a SUP division and seems it is not a surf one either – it counts for 1/3 of all point at the ISA Event for Team GB so needs to be sorted.
