Well it’s all over for another year. Team GB finished 12th after competing against the worlds top paddlers in crazy heat in beautiful Nicaragua.
The distance race on Lake Nicaragua was probably the toughest the ISA has thrown at us to date in the grueling heat and humidity, despite sickness and climate, Ollie, Aaron, Marie, Andre and Robbo all competed at the highest level and got some great results for GB.
The SUP surf was held at La Boquita, and due to earthquakes the week prior to the event the surf was pumping overhead sets and driving the shore dump further up the beach. Over the week of competition the waves subsided slightly and low tide heats were hard to compete in with the wind blowing 20 knots at times, but all team members: Holly, Matt and Aaron charged it.
The overall individual results were:
SUP MEN’S DISTANCE AND TECHNICAL RESULTS:
- Ollie Shilston:
- Aaron Rowe:
SUP WOMEN’S DISTANCE AND TECHNICAL RESULTS:
- Marie Buchanan:
MEN’S PRONE DISTANCE AND TECHNICAL RESULTS:
- Andre’ Le Geyt:
- Robbo Connor:
SUP SURF MEN’S RESULTS:
- Matt Barker-Smith: 16th
- Aaron Rowe: 25th
SUP SURF WOMEN’S RESULTS:
- Holly Bassett: 11th
Some of the team is headed home; whilst others are staying out for a little longer for some well-deserved relaxed time on the water.
Happy paddling everyone.
