Team GB SUP Team, ISA SUP Worlds report

Our SUP team are back in the UK getting over the last of the jet lag and fixing the damaged boards thanks to airlines. Sayulita was an epic trip the whole team had a great time; the team house was good, so was the food and all the locals were friendly.

BSUPA payed the teams entry fee and helped to organise some training and team bonding. Its great to be in a position where BSUPA can support GB SUP competitors at the top level of world competition.

The ISA SUP and Prone Paddleboard World Championship competitor level has improved since the 2014 event in Nicaragua. Lots of riders from the world tour were there: Danny Ching, Candice Appleby, Izzy Gomez, Sean Poynter were just some of the A list athletes that attended the event. There were plenty of unknown riders from Mexico who were high up in the results too

TEAM GB did good, placing 15th overall – we were short on prone riders which dropped our overall team result. Matt was 25th, Glyn in 37th and Holly 16th in SUP surf. Ollie was 25th in distance and 21st in Tech (even with a dog interfering at the start ). Andy was 34th in distance and and 29th in tech. Marie came 10th in both the 4K tech and 20k distance. Glyn was placed 23rd in the 4k probe technical and 26th in the 20k event. The Team GB relay position was 13th. Plus a 3rd in the World SUP Polo games. Thanks to Paul Simmons for Team Support.

Well done TEAM GB and thanks to all the supporters, Team Spain for the loan of prone boards – team sponsors: BSUPA, The Sup Hut, 2XS and Prosport Sunscreen.

Next for us is the 2016 TEAM GB selection – we have had lots of meetings and now we have set up a committee who are looking at the options – we hope to have an answer on this within the next 10 days or so -the committee is Nik Baker (Fanatic), Scott Warren (Starboard), Nick Rees (SurfGB), Chris Keynon (SUPUK), Will Rodgers (SupBoarder), Scott Wood (Prone Surf ) and Simon Bassett from BSUPA .
