Hello BSUPA members and non members.

I have all the information now about the Environment Agency and British Waterways license after tonight's meeting.  Although we have not signed on the dotted line yet as paper work on the agreements has not come through, I do have costing information and I would like to ask both members and non members on feedback on how this will work.  The licenses will give BSUPA members access to inland waterways that are looked after by British Waterways and the Environment Agency.

I propose that we pass on the direct cost to all members which is :

£7.50 for the EA License per member
£2.50 for the BW License per member
Total £10.

We will not offer just one of the licenses - it will be on the basis that you get both for £10.

It is extremely unlikely that the BW license will remain this cheap in 2011, that cost is on the basis of a trial for both BW and BSUPA, to see what the take up is and to see that SUPers are going to behave appropriately on the Canals.

I have had a chat with various folks about how they would like to see this work (thanks to John Hibbard, Neal Gent and Claire Blacklock for the feedback) and, because we have a general feeling that not everybody wants these licenses we will offer them as a membership add on.  If that is the case then I have done some maths as to how this might work for membership fees :

BSUPA membership (with 3rd party ins) adult: £32.50 pa
BW and EA license add on: £10 pa (in 2010).

BSUPA family membership will have to be scrapped as it loses us £30 per family due to increased insurance bill.  I reserve the right to start this up again if our membership moves beyond 200 as unit costs will reduce.

BSUPA Junior membership: £25 pa
BW and EA license add on: £10 pa (in 2010).

I would propose that anyone who renewed or joined after 1st Jan 2010 as either a Junior, Adult or family will be able to get the BW and EA license add on for £5 per person as a one off.

I hope that makes sense.

Please let me know if:

  1. This is how you would like the scheme to operate (as an add on rather than included)
  2. If not please send your suggestions as to how you would like to see it work
