Committee help needed at BSUPA
Dear SUPers and BSUPA members,As you may know, at the AGM in January 2010 Jock Patterson was voted onto the committee of BSUPA, which is fantastic news for the sport, as anyone who has met or been coached by Jock will know.
Sadly Richard Marsh (Events Director) has resigned. We are very sorry to lose Rich who has put countless hours into organising events in 2008-09. So thank you very much Rich for all your work, it is very much appreciated.
This means that currently there are four committee members running BSUPA and we need more. Everybody has an opinion about how SUP should be taken forward in the UK and this is a chance to get involved and help make that opinion count. We need fresh people, ideas and points of view, whether you are in the industry, a club member or a passionate SUPer. The committee members all volunteer their time for free (usually 2-3 hours per week), and are expected to have access to email/internet as we use that to communicate.
We are looking for people who can help with PR, updating websites, event experience and people involved with SUP clubs.
As an example of the things we are involved with a the moment:
1. Working with Sport England
2. Negotiating with insurance companies
3. Working with the Environment Agency and British Waterways on waterway access
4. Negotiating with Surfers Against Sewage for dual membership schemes
5. Rolling out coaching and accreditation schemes
6. Liaising with BCU
7. Working with RNLI and ROSPA on safety issues
8. Finding a sensible way of running events (both competition and fun events)
9. Working on BSUPA club membership scheme
Expectations are really high in 2010, and already we are making stirling progress, but we are very aware that four people, who also have full time jobs, can only do so much. If you would like to help us we would love to hear from you.
