BSUPA and RNLI Safety in the Surf leaflet
BSUPA's Simon Bassett and Matt Argyle have been working with the RNLI and other national bodies to develop a safety leaflet for people thinking of stand up paddle surfing. You will be seeing this leaflet at shops, beaches and activity centres all over the UK, but it is also available here.

BSUPA First Instructors Course
Held at X-train, West Wittering on March 22nd and 23rd, the UKs first SUP instructors course was headed up by Simon Bassett BSUPA head coach, Andy Gratwick expert Instructor Trainer and BKSA head Coach, Chris Rea Cornish Surf school owner and Lifeguard trainer and BSUPA chairman Matt Argyle. The coaching team have spent the last eight months putting together the scheme which has been from scratch. To make this work we also had to find and negotiate a new insurance policy for BSUPA, create an instructors manual, certificates and develope the next phase of the scheme the surf section which will follow later this season.
Environment Agency and British Waterways access license

Hello BSUPA members and non members.
I have all the information now about the Environment Agency and British Waterways license after tonight's meeting. Although we have not signed on the dotted line yet as paper work on the agreements has not come through, I do have costing information and I would like to ask both members and non members on feedback on how this will work. The licenses will give BSUPA members access to inland waterways that are looked after by British Waterways and the Environment Agency.

Committee help needed at BSUPA
As you may know, at the AGM in January 2010 Jock Patterson was voted onto the committee of BSUPA, which is fantastic news for the sport, as anyone who has met or been coached by Jock will know.
Sadly Richard Marsh (Events Director) has resigned. We are very sorry to lose Rich who has put countless hours into organising events in 2008-09. So thank you very much Rich for all your work, it is very much appreciated.
BSUPA launch Europe’s first SUP instructor qualification scheme

BSUPA are launching Europes’s first SUP instructor qualification scheme. The BSUPA Level 1 “Ready to Ride” © scheme is designed to teach stand up paddling on flat-water to beginners. Since we first planned this course we have added more course content with feed back from potential instructors and the course will now cover an intro to stand up paddle surfing, short distance route planning, safety, and a basic how to catch a wave on a SUP. Throughout the course we will be concentrating on paddle technique and teaching skills.
